ImageWIP Wednesday 9
Despite my best intentions to finish what I’ve already started and really tackle my stacks of WIPs and UFOs, this list just seems to keep growing. In my defense, I’ve inherited a lot of the projects. Still, with two quilts in frames, 8 more waiting to be quilted, and various piecing projects, I decided to take a much needed break from hand quilting by starting yet another project. And a pretty massive one at that. Inspired by this beloved quilt from my childhood, I decided I wanted to make a modern version of Grandmother’s Flower Garden.
Hand Piecing
1. Seven flowers together, pieces for ten more cut out and basted on the templates, probably another 4o some to go, plus the background.
I’m torn on the background. My original vision was this text print, but I’m a little worried that the quilt will be too busy. I’m testing it out with a few flowers now.
Quilting
2. Blue String Quilt- I’m about half way through quilting this throw quilt (about time, since it was started in 2009), have to keep moving, it’s for an October wedding gift.
3. Megan’s Wedding Quilt has sadly been pushed to the side for the summer heat. Hopefully it will be front and center again after the October wedding.
Piecing
4. Juliet’s Bag- One more bag needed for my church
5. Scrap Lightning
6. Star Quilt
Waiting to be Quilted
7. Waterlilies Quilt- I’ve just inherited this quilt and the Shoo Fly quilt from two of my grandmother’s nieces. They were wedding presents for them 40 some years ago. No one is quite sure how they remained unquilted for so long, but they’ve asked me to finish them.
8. Shoofly
9. Navy and Red Dresden Plate
10. Double Wedding Ring
11. Pink and Green Dresden Plate
12. Black and White Values
13. Super Star
14. Four Patch
15. Sweet Geese
So, there it is. A much too long list, and honestly, I can only expect to finish maybe three things off it in the next month. It’s enough to make a girl consider learning to machine quilt.
Lots more motivational WIPs are linked up at Lee‘s.

WIP Wednesday- Totally Traditional to Fabulously Modern
Just a quick peek at what I’ve been working on this week!
From totally traditional,
to fabulously modern!
More WIP Wednesday goodness at Lee‘s.
A Sandwich At Last: WIP Wednesday 6
Quilting
My awesome friend Allie help me sandwich the beast and get this in the frame. And not a minute too soon. Now the real questions looms, can I qiult and bind this in 30 days?
2. Mini Whole Cloth Quilt
I needed a good travel project this week, so I quickly sandwiched some solids and traced a design on it. My family will be volunteering a historical festival that we’ve been doing forever, but this time I’ll get to focus on quilting! I’m making several mini quilts as examples of types of quilting– Whole cloth, pieced, and applique planned so far. Any other styles I should show (keeping in mini that they must be period appropriate to the 1800s)?
3. Blue String Quilt

4. Black and White Values
5. Scrappy Blocks

WIP Wednesday 5
WIP Wednesday 5 in May? Yeah, 2012 is not the year of the blog for me, obviously. At least I’m getting one of these a month.
Finishes
Four finishes since I last posted. Some stripey socks for me, which I made mostly at lunchtime at the office and now have taken to wearing around our over air conditioned office, both to the puzzlement of my non crafty co-workers. I’m saving the big super special butterfly quilt for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival (this Friday)! Sent out my 4×5 Bee blocks and wrapped up my first quarter as a Hive Caretaker, which was a lot of fun.
And just this weekend finished up Sunny Day Dresden.
I’ve really been on a dresden kick, haven’t I? Think it’s time for me to shift to a new project. Luckily, there are no shortages of those.
Sandwiching
1. Wedding Quilt (Really needs a better name than that, but it just hasn’t come to me yet, suggestions welcome)
The borders are on, the batting is at my house, and I’ve got a friend coming to help me sandwich the beast this Thursday!
Piecing
2. Scrappy Blocks
Finally settled on a zig zag type of design for these and I’ve been piecing them as leader/enders for awhile now. Seems I’ll be needing to make quite a few more though if I want this to go on my bed (and I really do!)
3. Black and White Values
New project? Nope, even better, two year old project being resurrected and finally getting finished. Decide that I ought to look through my abandon project boxes (yeah, there are four of them, boxes, not projects) before starting something new, and what do you know, I found projects that work for both of the cousin wedding presents I need to make!
Quilting
4. Blue String Quilt
The second revived abandoned project. Sandwiched this last week and now it’s in the lap frame.
Knitting
5. Socks- One of my crafting resolutions for 2012 was socks with heels. Well, we’re not even close to the heel yet, and I feel like I’m knitting with toothpicks on these size 1 needles, but at least I’m started on them!
Waiting to be Quilted
6. Super Star
7. Four Patch
8. Sweet Geese
Well, here’s hoping that extended summer evening sun will mean posts a bit more often. More WIP goodness at Lee‘s.

WIP Wednesday 3
Two big completions since I last linked up to WIP Wednesday:
My sewing room is totally together and I finished my first quilt of Harrisburg!
Those dresdens on the table are now finished and in the mail back to NC. Full finish photos coming after it’s presented at the church.
So close to done
1. Sewing Machine stars is just two ties away from being finished. Seriously, need to get those on and get it off the list!
Piecing
2. A Wedding Quilt to be, currently just this giant stack of HSTs waiting to be cut, ironed, and trimmed.
Planning
3. I like that I’m actually making progress on my list and not working on 40 things at once, but now that I’ve just decided that my cubicle really needs a mini quilt to cheer it up a bit. I’m thinking about a spiderweb quilt, with this text print as the centers?
It’s Perch by Timeless Treasures. I used it for the background on my church banner, so I think it would be a nice little reminder of the lovely people I miss so much in Durham.
Waiting for Quilting
4. Blue String Quilt
5. Super Star
6. Four Patch
7. Sweet Geese
Knitting
8. I said I wasn’t going to make another pair of socks for five years, after my nine pairs for Christmas, but I needed something to do at knitting guild tonight, I didn’t have anything ready to go and still had odds and ends of sock yarn all stuffed in my bag, so why not. On to pair ten! This pair I’m keeping all for myself.
Linking up to Lee‘s for great inspiration!
